Trauntor

Gmunden, Upper Austria

The gate is a remnant of the old city fortifications and was once intended to protect the inhabitants from attacks from the east. It probably dates from the second half of the 13th century and was extended in 1870/71 and 1963/64. At that time, after the demolition of the northeast-facing Kammerhof wing, which projected towards the bridge, a second, equally large gate was erected next to the old Trauntor. The height of the Trauntor is 3.70 meters, and it may only be used by vehicles with a maximum weight of 7.5 tons. More information can be found under Gmunden's Treasures! More information about Emperor Maximilian's coat of arms can be found under Gmunden's Treasures!
