In response to the Turkish invasions, a fortified Tabor with a gate complex, round towers, ring wall, and moat was built around the church in the 16th century. At the end of the 17th century, the fortification was dismantled and replaced with a residential building. In the courtyard of the Tabor, on the south side of the church, there are impressive remnants of Roman settlement on Weizer soil. The late antique gravestones date from the 1st to 2nd century. The interior of the church surprises with well-preserved Romanesque and Gothic frescoes – episodes from the creation story, the Passion of Christ, and the story of Mary. Lost parts of the frescoes were supplemented in 1933 by the Weizer artist Fritz Silberbauer, with existing ones restored. The Baroque high altar draws the viewer's attention to the altar picture painted in 1771 by J. A. Ritter von Mölck. It depicts the oldest preserved view of the market town of Weiz.
