On the banks of the glacial river Isel, in a former sawmill, a free space for the artists of East Tyrol was created here in a showcase project by the Art Osttirol art association in cooperation with the municipality of Virgen – the stone sculptor's workshop. Debarked trees stand upside down, massive serpentine stones from the valley are processed - here you can often even watch the artists at work live. The constant, powerful flow of the last free-flowing glacial river Isel inspires the local stone sculptors and makes the forms and cuts of their works appear fluid. They show how stones weighing tons become artistic sculptures – how nature becomes art. Here, the symbiosis of nature and art is truly palpable. Upon request, a workspace can be rented by a guest artist. The adjacent sculpture park offers pleasure hikers, as well as friends of aesthetic art, the ideal opportunity to admire the artworks amidst untouched nature. At the annual symposium "SkulpTour", various renowned guest artists work on unique sculptures and provide very personal insights into the life and work of an artist during artist talks.
