Schwarzes Kreuz

The Schwarzes Kreuz in Draßburg is a striking monument on a hill above the cemetery, erected in 1898 by Mathilde and Conrad Patzenhofer, the then owners of Draßburg Castle and the sugar factory in Siegendorf. It commemorates the assassination of Empress Elisabeth (Sisi) and bears a trilingual inscription in German, Croatian, and Hungarian. The location offers an impressive view over the Wulka Valley to Lake Neusiedl and is freely accessible all year round. In addition, the surrounding area is part of a re-naturalization project in the Rosalia-Kogelberg Nature Park, which aims to restore damaged ecosystems.
