Schloss Starhemberg

Gothic building with later alterations. The north wing of Starhemberg Castle was once a castle of the Bishops of Passau (mentioned as a castle in 1167). The old fortress was surrounded by water and entered through a gate in the north. This gate still stands today. In 1416, the Schaunberger family had the old fortress razed and the "New Fortress" built in its place (today's old castle). The east wing, known as the Verwalterstöckl, dates from the 15th century. Visible towards the town square is the south wing with its classical facade. This south wing and the west wing were built in 1784 under Prince Georg Adam I von Starhemberg. Today, the castle houses the Princely Starhemberg Family Museum and the Museum of the City of Eferding. Both museums surprise with highly interesting exhibits. Admission to the Museum & Guided Tour of the Castle The museum is open from May 1st to October 1st. Open Sundays and public holidays from 10 AM to 12 PM and 2:30 PM to 5 PM. Eferdinger Schlossadvent The Eferdinger Schlossadvent is unique in its kind. The idyllic inner courtyard, the impressive cellar, and the original knight's hall of the castle provide the splendid setting. The Schlossadvent takes place on the 2nd Advent weekend.
