Schloss Auhof bei Perg

AUHOF CASTLE NEAR PERG: On the road section Perg-Arbing, before the expansion of Bundesstraße 3, there was a feared curve, forced by a high wall. Behind this wall stands Auhof Castle, whose rectangular, three-story building block (construction began 1568) is structured by a bay tower (19th century) and the chapel (St. Bernhard, after 1667) projecting from the south-east front. A predecessor building, formerly referred to as "old castle", remained part of the Meierhof (manor farm) and is barely recognizable as such after renovations. The Auhof takes its name from the Lords of Au (municipality of Naarn im Machland). It was in their possession until approx. 1420 and always remained a free property thereafter. In 1693, the new castle completely burned down. Baumgartenberg Abbey, as the owner at the time, immediately restored the burnt-out ruin. The current simple early historicist facade dates from a further expansion and renovation after 1860. Private property - visits in special cases.
