Globasnitz, Carinthia
On the north face of the Hemmaberg, below the summit, is the Rosaliengrotte with a chapel and spring, which is said to have similar healing powers to the spring in the French pilgrimage site of Lourdes. In the mystical Rosaliengrotte, Saint Rosalia, the patron saint of plague victims, has been venerated since the Baroque period. It is a place of inner contemplation and peace, around which numerous myths and legends entwine. A spring originates in the Rosaliengrotte below the ancient settlement, which served to supply water to the late antique settlement. The spring is freely accessible and is said to possess miraculous healing powers, especially for the eyes. The Rosalienkapelle is also located in the grotto. In 1669, the statue of Saint Rosalia was placed in the grotto, commissioned by the Superior of Eberndorf Abbey in Marburg.
