Pfarrkirche St. Margarethen

St. Margarethen, Salzburg

Historical background: A document from Salzburg Archbishop Eberhard II from the year 1231 provides the first written record of a church in St. Margarethen. It mentions the 'Capella Sanctae Margarethae' as a filial church of Mariapfarr. It is believed that the influence of the Lords of Moosham contributed to Sankt Margarethen in Lungau being mentioned as an independent parish in 1421. The parish church was renovated in 1586. The nave was fitted with a net-rib vault and the choir was rebuilt. Since then, the church has presented a late Gothic interior. The furnishings were completed in the 18th and 19th centuries. (Our parish church is also accessible in winter).
