Naturpark Sölktäler, Styria
Isolated on a rock steeply sloping down to the road, the parish church and the neighboring former Großsölk Castle stand above the village. It can be traced back to the 14th century and has always had an important protective function for the old trade route over the Sölkpass, which passes directly by here. The outwardly simple church, topped in the west above the main entrance by a tower with a dome roof, forms a building ensemble with the neighboring castle. An 11 m high and 2.50 m thick ring wall runs around the common inner courtyard, which still reveals its former fortified character today. The parish church in Großsölk is dedicated to Saint Leonhard - the patron saint of agriculture.
