Pfarrkirche Maria Himmelfahrt

Kundl, Tyrol

From 1734-1736, a Baroque new building of the parish church "Maria Himmelfahrt" in Kundl was constructed in place of a Gothic church. In 1970, the predecessor buildings, mentioned in documents from 788 and dating back to the Carolingian period, were secured through excavations. The west portal, dated 1735 by inscription, contains a niche with a Maria Immaculata statue (around 1735). The exterior of the parish church is kept simple, but the interior decoration is of captivating elegance: Dense stucco decoration in the vault and on the spandrel walls above the windows (around 1735) Foliage and ribbon work, particularly diverse in its ornamental motifs, as well as birds, busts, and vases Baroque vault paintings in medallions (around 1735) in the choir: Presentation of Mary in the Temple and scenes from the life of Mary In the nave: Assumption of Mary, Mary as protector of Kundl, and depictions of saints Stained glass windows from 1903 Outstanding valuable stucco work and ceiling frescoes, as well as the altarpiece "Maria Himmelfahrt", which was taken from the old church
