Parapluie Aussichtswarte Bad Gleichenberg

The landmark of Bad Gleichenberg. The six-meter-high tower, built in the 19th century, is located 390 meters above sea level and is thus the highest point of the Röhrlkogel. After climbing the observation tower, the reward is a unique view of the Thermen- und Vulkanland Steiermark; in good weather, the view even extends to Marburg in Slovenia. The observation tower, built around 1840, has a very special historical value for the "Gleichenberger" people, as it is already over 180 years old! The builder of the "Parapluie" was the Gleichenberger und Johannisbrunnen Aktienverein, and after some hardships, the first renovation followed in 1882, the year that was also carved into one of the brick pillars. A guard was always present on the six-meter-high tower during visiting hours, who first presented a guestbook to the visitor for entry and then led them to the so-called large "Tubus", the telescope, to grant the visitor a good view. A white-green flag displayed at the tower and visible into the valley indicated "clear view". To spare the walker the somewhat arduous path, the flag was simply taken down in poor visibility. Despite many difficulties in the past, such as the complete decay of the wooden staircase, the observation tower on the Albrechtshöhe in Bad Gleichenberg is still preserved and represents a very interesting destination for tourists. Today it is cherished and maintained by the Kameradschaft vom Edelweiß. A visit and the unique panoramic view from the observation tower can be easily combined with a (gourmet) hike or bike tour, or climbed during a pleasant walk. For the adventurous, the hike to the Albrechtshöhe through the "Bärenbach-Schlucht" is highly recommended.
