The area between Königshof and Bruckneudorf forms a unique biotope network with bodies of water, reed zones, wet meadows, and riparian forest. The heart of it is the 30 ha nature reserve "Batthyanyfeld", an important breeding and resting place for birds. Ornithologists have recorded around 120 bird species here. As a stepping stone between the March-Donauauen and Lake Neusiedl, it plays a central role in bird protection.Originally cultivated wet meadows were leased in the 1960s for use as sedimentation basins, which led to shrub encroachment and a decline in waterfowl. After renaturation measures from 1995 and the designation as a protected area in 1998, the area regained its ecological significance.
