Museum im Lavanthaus

Wolfsberg, Carinthia

ausstellungmuseumstour

The Museum im Lavanthaus, located near the old town of Wolfsberg, showcases the Lavanttal in its diversity: 15 themes - from fossils and minerals to city history, folklore, and literature - invite surprising discoveries. Here you'll find teeth of sharks and dog-bears, as well as Roman arrowheads, film awards of Maximilian Schell, or the typewriter of the Austrian writer Christine Lavant. Multimedia stations provide additional information. For our CHILDREN: "Discover the museum with a quiz" "Mining tunnel for children" - a wooden structure designed like a mine tunnel inside, inviting a treasure hunt. Equipped with helmets and lamps, children can make various finds "in the tunnel," collect them, and assemble them into a puzzle. This way, content related to mining is experienced playfully. Permanent exhibition: Do you know the treasures and secrets of the Lavanttal region? Why was Wolfsberg owned by the Bishop of Bamberg for 752 years? How large is the largest rock crystal ever found in the Lavanttal? The Museum im Lavanthaus, located near the old town of Wolfsberg, sees itself as a regional museum and offers its guests the opportunity to find answers and gain insights into around 15 thematic areas. Multimedia and interactive stations playfully convey additional information, such as the Lavanttal dialect quiz, the knowledge repository "Lavant - Explorer," the digital flower book, or the cozy cinema with numerous short films. Special exhibition: The Romans in the Lavanttal – a fascinating journey into antiquity Hardly any epoch fascinates people as much as the time of the Romans. They also left numerous traces in the Lavanttal, which tell of their daily lives, their beliefs, and their economy. The new exhibition "The Romans in the Lavanttal" invites visitors to discover this exciting past. Based on significant archaeological finds, the exhibition illuminates four central thematic areas: living and everyday life, cult and religion, burial culture, and mining and raw material extraction. Visitors gain insights into life on Roman estates, get to know the world of gods of that time, and learn more about the burial customs of antiquity. A special focus is on the famous marble quarry Spitzelofen near St. Georgen. The tools and mining traces discovered there are among the most important testimonies of Roman quarrying in the entire former Imperium Romanum and allow fascinating insights into the world of work almost 2,000 years ago. The exhibition is supplemented by digital presentations, historical texts by ancient authors, and clear display panels that bring the Roman past of the Lavanttal to life.
