Loretokirche

Radstadt, Salzburg

Pilgrimage church "Maria Loreto ob den Lerchen" The hall-like, cross-vaulted church interior extends over two bays and continues into a straight-ending choir. In the second bay of the nave, two segment-shaped projections accommodate the side altars. A gallery provides additional space, and behind the altar, a narrow corridor leads to the sacristy. On the west side, there is a wooden porch, and a tower crowns the small place of worship. The polychrome, partially gilded high altar (wood, around 1740) surrounds the Marian image of grace, a carving from the second half of the 17th century. It stands in a richly decorated niche, revered by four angels. The two side altars, like the high altar, date from around 1740. The altar painting on the left shows St. Anne with Mary, the Christ Child, as well as Joachim and Joseph. The right altar depicts St. Rupert. The figures are kept in safekeeping for safety reasons. The pilgrimage church testifies to Baroque Marian devotion, piety of the founders, and a sense of beauty in harmony of faith, nature, and architecture. It still forms a picturesque unity with Schloss Lerchen today.
