Krungl

Bad Mitterndorf, Styria

In the 13th century, the place was called "Chrungil", just like the Grundlsee, which originally may have belonged to Krungl in terms of ownership rights. The village is built on a burial ground, which was initially attributed to the Slavs, but could also already be Bavarian. It can happen to a house builder here that he comes across bone remains when excavating a cellar. The graves date from the period between 600 and 900 AD. At that time, the Christianization of the region began, and so pagans and Christians are buried here side by side. According to legend, the blacksmith of Krungl once shod the army of the dead of the Wild Hunt.
