In the middle of Pöllau stands today's castle and former Augustinian Canons' Monastery. The Kriegerdenkmalhof with its magnificent arcades is located in the inner courtyard of Pöllau Castle. In 1482, Hans von Neuberg, the then owner of Pöllau Castle and market, stipulated in his will that the castle should be converted into an Augustinian Canons' Monastery after his death. Pöllau Abbey was finally founded 22 years later. In the same year, eight canons under Provost Ulrich moved from Vorau Abbey to Pöllau. Between 1677 and 1779, the monastery was rebuilt and expanded. We are also happy to offer guided tours of Pöllau Castle.
