Kornspeicher

Originally built in the 16th century as a grain store for a merchant's house, the two-story building has been owned by the city since 1907. In 1985, the former granary was converted into a studio theater. In 2020, Theater Kornspeicher gemeinnützige Betriebs GmbH, under the direction of Peter Kowatsch, took over the realignment, administration, and programming of the venue. With a new, state-of-the-art ventilation and cooling system, Theater Kornspeicher offers space for 140 people. The barrier-free building with a stairlift features a stage with modular elements, lighting and sound technology, a foyer with gallery walls and a theater bar, an artist's dressing room, and a technical room. The program includes cabaret & comedy, spoken word, musical & children's theater, concerts (from classical to modern), readings & literary evenings, lectures, fairy tale & storytelling days, pantomime performances, variety shows, and even Kasperl (Punch and Judy) regularly comes and turns Theater Kornspeicher into a Kasperlhaus again. The Kornspeicher is located at Freiung 15 and can also be reached via the entrance of the building Stadtplatz 46 on a short idyllic path through the enchanting Kornspeicher Park. Paid parking (free of charge Mon. to Fri. from 6:00 PM, Sat. from 12:00 PM free of charge, and Sun. all day free of charge) at Stadtplatz, Ringstraße, and Pollheimerstraße. Free parking at the exhibition grounds (approx. 5 min walk).
