Katholische Pfarrkirche Öblarn

Gröbminger Land, Styria

Our parish church is dedicated to St. Andrew. According to tradition, it was built between 1423 and 1466 on the initiative of Abbot Andreas v. Stettheimer. Around 1800, the two side chapels were added. In 1812, the bell tower was raised to 36 meters. The high altar was erected in 1755. The carpentry work was done by the sculptor Johannes Fortschegger from Bad Mitterndorf. The polychromy (painting) was done by Anton Pötschnick from Admont. The altarpiece, which depicts the martyrdom of St. Apostle Andrew, was created by the Carinthian painter Josef Fromiller (1754), who immortalized himself with a self-portrait (to the right of St. Andrew's Cross). The altar sculptures are by the Baroque sculptor Josef Stammel from Admont.
