The largely Romanesque tower, a relic of the pre-Gothic church, probably from the mid-12th century. The three-aisled Gothic central part of the church with magnificent palm and net vaults. Above the church portal, the year 1473 can be seen here. In the presbytery, which was built in Renaissance style by Count Adam Herberstorff in 1625-1629, a Roman tombstone can be seen in the masonry. Count Herberstorff's remains found their final resting place in a crypt. The magnificent Baroque high altar with a painting by Joachim Sandrat, depicting the death of St. Benedict (1636) with Baroque figures of saints (St. Florian, St. George, 2 angels guarding the tabernacle) from the workshop of M. Zürn. The same master also created the Archangel Michael, who is located on the choir balustrade. In the presbytery on the left, the baptismal chapel with a Romanesque baptismal font and a Gothic relief, depicting the Coronation of Mary around 1500. In the presbytery on the right, on the way to the sacristy, embedded in the masonry next to the sacristy entrance, a Roman tombstone from around 200 AD. At the main entrance on the right, the All Saints' Chapel with the All Saints' Altar, a work of the German Renaissance (16th century). Here is also the epitaph of Count Adam Herberstorff and a Gothic relief from around 1500, depicting the Nativity. Architectural style: Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque Schwanthaler Nativity Scene Altmünster The unique Nativity scene by Johann Georg Schwanthaler, which is exhibited in seven depictions in the confession chapel, is considered the mother Nativity scene of the Salzkammergut Nativity scenes. Schwanthaler, born in Aurolzmünster in 1740, ran his workshop in Gmunden, where he died in 1810. Here he also created the Altmünster Nativity scene. The Schwanthaler Nativity scene consists of seven parts: from the Adoration of the Shepherds, the Circumcision of the Lord, the Presentation in the Temple, to the 12-year-old Jesus in the Temple. Since Schwanthaler had never seen a camel or an elephant in nature, truly wondrous animals can be seen in the Adoration of the Kings. The camel has a swan's neck and the elephant has a pig's snout, paws like a dog, and a tail like an ox. The Flight is depicted without idols and robbers. One sees Joseph and Mary riding on the donkey with the child. The angel of the flight is considered the most beautiful angel in Upper Austrian Nativity art. Previously, the Nativity scene was placed on the left side altar, later in parts on the All Saints' Altar. Since 1974, it has been admired as a complete ensemble in the confession chapel. All figures still have their original painting. The Nativity scene can be seen daily from Christmas Eve to Candlemas from 14:00 to 16:00 and on Sundays and public holidays from 08:00 to 11:00.
