St. Kathrein am Hauenstein, Styria

According to a legend, the footprint of St. Katharina, the patron saint of St. Kathrein am Hauenstein, is said to have been imprinted in this stone. In 1529, she is said to have left her place at the high altar and stood here on the mountainside on two stones, with a sword in her hand and a radiant halo around her head, confronting the Turks. Thereupon the Turks withdrew and the stone filled with healing water. This water, which lies in the depression all year round, is said to possess healing power that helps against warts, tremors, and itchy skin.
