History and Ceramics at K-Hof. The K-Hof offers a chronological cross-section through the history of the city of Gmunden and the Traunsee region from its geological beginnings to the 21st century, across 2000 m2 of exhibition space in 14 barrier-free showrooms. The focus on ceramics runs like a "red thread" through all exhibition rooms. Earth and Cultural History at K-Hof. The natural environment and mineral resources around Lake Traunsee influenced the cultural-historical development of people. Salt shaped the city's economy for centuries. "Traunsee Marble" still serves as a valuable building stone. Clay is the raw material for the production of Gmundner Keramik. World-famous fossils from the "Gschliefgraben" are witnesses to the eventful geological history. The Traun river and Traunsee lake, which formed during and after the ice ages, favored trade routes and tourism. By prior arrangement, stone grinding and polishing as well as guided hikes along the Gmundner Jahrtausendweg and to the Gschliefgraben are also offered for groups. Permanent Exhibition: Sanitary History at K-Hof. "Klo&So" As a cultural-historical contribution to the history of utility ceramics, the world's unique museum for historical sanitary objects is presented at K-Hof. In addition to the production of sanitary ceramics, it also illuminates the change in hygiene standards and conveys an exciting history around the so-called "little room". Even though the invention of the modern water closet dates back to the late 16th century, it took a long time before it would replace commodes, chamber pots, or bedpans in households. Permanent Exhibition - Ceramic Lifestyle Show Depot The Kammerhof Museum in Gmunden displays its extensive collection of ceramic artworks and handcrafted objects in a special exhibition and storage room. A visit to this show depot is like a stroll through the varied history of 20th-century ceramic art and decoration. Visitors can discover rare or never-before-seen treasures from all over the world, created during the famous Kurt Ohnsorg Symposia in the 1960s. In addition, works by Anton Raidel and Franz-Joseph Altenburg, who continue this legacy to this day, are on display. Many household and decorative items from local manufacturers such as Reisenbichler, Pesendorfer, Födinger, Schleiß, and Gmundner Keramik are also exhibited. By train: via Attnang-Puchheim station on the Salzkammergutbahn (line 170) to Gmunden station, from Gmunden station with the Traunseetram (line 161) from Stern & Hafferl to the Gmunden Rathausplatz stop, also coming from Vorchdorf Eggenberg or Gmunden Engelhof (Park & Ride). The stop is approx. 100 meters away.
