Hofrichterhaus

Gmunden, Upper Austria

The so-called Hofrichterhaus existed before 1533. As the name suggests, the so-called Hofrichter (court judge) once lived in it. Due to his reputation and importance in drafting documents, his residence was often located near the town hall. It is one of the oldest salt producer houses in the city, also served as a guesthouse and as such was the inn for millers. From 1870, a pharmacy was located there. After its relocation to Theatergasse (today Seeapotheke), the house has been home to ready-to-wear and fashion shops until today. More information can be found at Gmundens Schätze!
