Historischer Curort Bad Gleichenberg

In 1834, the governor of Styria, Imperial Count Mathias Constantin von Wickenburg, founded the spa resort of Bad Gleichenberg. He had the local healing springs developed and systematically laid out the town. Bad Gleichenberg very quickly developed into one of the most sought-after and respected spa resorts of the monarchy. Members of European ruling houses, international nobility, high bourgeoisie, and important military personnel populated the town during the "season," which then lasted from May to September. Bad Gleichenberg is still full of traces of this great past. The Curmuseumsverein (Spa Museum Association) works to keep this history alive and accessible to the public. At several stations of the attractively designed "Historical Circular Route," one can trace an exciting journey of discovery into the fascinating history of Bad Gleichenberg. I love this corner of the earth... Even Peter Rosegger succumbed to the special charms of Bad Gleichenberg when he wrote this declaration of love in 1906. The picturesque spa resort in the Thermen- & Vulkanland (Thermal Spa & Volcano Land) owes its fame to the healing springs, which were already known to the Romans. The spa resort of Bad Gleichenberg, with its existence since 1834, is the oldest in Styria and is located in a former volcanic area at 300 m above sea level. A place full of relaxation Since 2015, Bad Gleichenberg has had a newly designed main square. As a place of encounter and enjoyable lingering, it represents a successful interplay between revitalized and restored historical building fabric and new architecture, merging with a fountain to form a harmonious ensemble. Highly developed health expertise is also of great importance in Bad Gleichenberg. Especially respiratory complaints and skin diseases can be treated very well through special applications, for example with Gleichenberg brine, in the Kurhaus Bad Gleichenberg. This holistic relaxation is rounded off in the Therme der Ruhe (Thermal Spa of Tranquility), whose outdoor pools merge wonderfully with the adjacent Curpark. One can also dive into the Bad Gleichenberg outdoor pool with its 50m pool and a leisure facility including a diving tower, beach volleyball court, and children's playground, and the multi-generational playground with a mini-golf course. A highlight of every visit to Bad Gleichenberg is also the Styrassic Park with its now over 85 life-size dinosaurs.
