Heimathaus Naarn im Machlande

In 1989, the market town of Naarn acquired the building, first mentioned in 1796, with the aim of establishing a local heritage museum. After careful renovation, it opened in July 1992. The small property offers three rooms, as well as a covered cellar room, for exhibitions. On the exterior, there is a ship-pulling fresco from 1797. The then-owner – a boatman by profession – had the motif (artist unknown) applied. It depicts a ship-pulling scene with eight horses and three ships with riders, loaders, and boatmen. In 2012, the cultural association FORUM NAARN was founded. From the association's founding until 2014, the building was renovated and the fresco restored. The new construction of the barn with barrier-free sanitary facilities allows for its use for smaller cultural events. The re-opening of the entire ensemble with an exhibition on the topics of ship-pulling, timber rafting on the Aist, and Danube log driving took place in June 2014.
