Augustinermuseum

Rattenberg, Tyrol

ausstellungmuseumstour

One of Tyrol's most significant museums in Austria's smallest town The museum, housed in the buildings of the former Augustinian and later Servite monastery, which existed from 1384 to 1971, is unique. The collections showcase Tyrolean art treasures spanning nine centuries. These include exquisite masterpieces from the Romanesque and Gothic periods, as well as numerous examples of religious folk art. The cultural-historical objects from the region and a collection of rare Gothic sculptures are definitely worth a visit. Changing art exhibitions and cloister concerts delight a large audience every year. The Augustinermuseum has already been awarded the Tyrolean Museum Prize and the Austrian Museum Prize. Tyrol's only publicly accessible church tower A unique feature in Tyrol and a spectacular view of medieval Rattenberg Tyrol's only publicly accessible church tower is located in the Augustinermuseum. Admire the baroque tower clock, historic bells, and the viewing platform with a spectacular view of Rattenberg's rooftops and the Inn Valley. One feels transported back a few centuries when entering the dark, dim church attic in the Augustinermuseum. Anchored wooden planks serve as a walkway, and in front of you, the church dome arches, which can be adventurously circumnavigated. Here you are directly above the church vault. An insight that visitors are unlikely to see anywhere else. Below it is the "Augustinerhimmel" (Augustinian Heaven), which represents Tyrol's first monumental vault fresco. The expansion makes it possible to view the masterpiece from just a few meters away. You are, so to speak, standing directly in front of it and observing the ceiling fresco up close. Good to know for a visit to the museum The nearest parking lot is the paid P4 at the eastern entrance to the town of Rattenberg. Another paid parking option is P5 at the eastern entrance to the town. A stroll through Austria's smallest town is recommended when visiting the museum. The beautiful glass shops, souvenir shops, and the town's excellent coffee houses and restaurants invite you to linger.
