Encounter with great artThat large-format wood sculptures are part of this artist's standard repertoire is not immediately apparent - but as so often, appearances are deceiving: "I grow together with the chainsaw," Roswitha Dautermann enthusiastically describes how, among other things, the six-meter-tall largest Styrian Christ in St. Anna am Aigen was created. It is also surprising that the East Styrian actually comes from the field of ceramics. Together with her husband and artist partner Curd Dautermann, she has been running a ceramic workshop in Raabau near Feldbach for around 25 years. Together they also attended the Ortweinschule in Graz (where both now also teach) and studied ceramics in Linz. While Curd has artistically moved towards photography over the years, Roswitha realizes her ideas, which for her "always come first," with numerous different techniques and materials. "I am the chameleon of us two," she explains with a laugh, because whether it's painting, graphics, object, wood sculpture, plastic, illustration or performance art - she passionately and with a lot of energy juggles between all these artistic forms of expression. No wonder then that one often encounters Dautermann art in the Thermen- und Vulkanland Steiermark.
