Wipfelwanderweg Rachau

Walking among the treetops, about 20 meters above the forest floor, and a view like no other: this is the Wipfelwanderweg Rachau — the highest treetop walk in Europe. In front of the cash area, there is a designated disabled parking space. The reception building includes a map and tourism office, a souvenir shop, and the experience gastronomy "Fuchs und Henne" with a children's playground. There is also an accessible toilet here, although it does not have grab bars. Before starting the 2.7-kilometer circular trail, families with small children can rent a child carrier. This makes the hike a pleasant experience for all family members. From the reception building, you reach the entrance to the treetop walk: first, you cross a wooden structure with stairs or a gravel path (note: more than 10% incline) to the Sonnenweg. This 500-meter-long path runs along a forest to the "Himmelsleiter" (Sky Ladder). From there, you ascend 148 steps to the Gratweg (ridge trail). After exploring the forest, you reach the entrance to the treetop walk. Here, you are greeted by a solid construction made of larch wood — stairs, walkways, and platforms — surrounded by pristine nature. Lovers can retreat to the Herzerlturm (little heart tower), order a picnic basket, and even have the tower locked. Those wanting to learn more about the forest and its inhabitants can be guided by a forest educator. There is much to discover, learn, feel, and touch: nature games, a cone-shaped play area, quiz stations, audio stations, barefoot path, slackline, and power spots. Safety is ensured: staff check and maintain the path twice daily. The circular route leads back to the reception building. After all the walking and exploring, if you are hungry, you can enjoy a meal at "Fuchs und Henne." There are even special children's dishes.
