Wilderer Museum Molln - Maultrommel & Handwerk

Molln, Upper Austria

ausstellungmuseumstour

As the only museum in Austria, we present the history of poaching from the Middle Ages to today, supplemented by the processing of the events of a regional tragedy - the Molln Poaching Drama. Using numerous exhibits, the relationship between manorialism and subjects, the noble family of Lamberg, the peasant liberation of 1848, and hunting and poaching are documented - supplemented by the extensive collection of Prof. Dr. Roland Girtler and the unique exhibits of the Walder family. Founded as a craft museum with a focus on wood craftsmanship and iron processing, the Wilderer Museum Molln in the old vaults of the economic wing of the former Forsthube Molln of the Steyr manor – today's Gasthaus Wirt im Dorf – offers, in addition to the focus on poaching, the unique tradition of jaw harp manufacturing in Molln as well as an extensive collection on the topic of wood processing.Jaw Harp & CraftsmanshipThe production of the jaw harp in Molln can be traced back to 1647 – this long tradition of manufacturing these forged instruments is unique in Austria. Various types, forms, and distribution areas of these musical instruments are shown, including graphic works on the topic of jaw harp from an art school in Yakutia (Siberia).Rare wood crafts such as the shovel hacker, fork and rake maker, bowl maker and distaff maker, as well as wagon maker and turner are represented with a variety of tools. All mentioned craftsmen used wood, a raw material abundantly available in the Molln forests.Famous Personalities & Molln BusinessesTwo important poetic personalities who have their roots in Molln are also represented in the museum: Marlen Haushofer (1920-1970) and Otto Jungmair (1889-1974). An exhibition area is dedicated to the entertainer Hans Joachim Kulenkampff, who is buried in the cemetery of the Frauenstein pilgrimage church. A completely different topic is dedicated to the creation of the sports shoe factory and brand "Dachstein", which the Molln shoemaker Anton Lintner founded in 1925. The development of Fa. Piesslinger from a scythe factory to a specialist in aluminum finishing and powder coating is also shown.Note on the special exhibition 2026:44 years of Fotoclub Molln
