The wine cellar under the Meierhof (farm building)The visitor entering the abbey through the main entrance gate finds themselves in the so-called outer abbey courtyard. This is less a proper courtyard and more a rectangle formed by the space between two mighty Vierkanter (four-sided farmsteads), the upper and lower (eastern and western) Meierhof. This courtyard was created by the Baroque architects Carlo Antonio Carlone (1690 bridge gate) and Jakob Prandtauer (1713-1723 Meierhöfe).Beneath the western Meierhof, the spacious cellar vaults were built, which still serve as the cellar vaults of the winery today. Thus, even today, the wines of the abbey winery mature in Prandtauer's vaults.
