Wallfahrtskirche Maria Himmelfahrt

Wallfahrtskirche Maria Himmelfahrt

Ollersdorf im Burgenland, Burgenland

The pilgrimage church Maria Himmelfahrt was built from solid masonry in 1762-1764, replacing a wooden church that is said to have existed before 1680. It is a Baroque building. The original saddle tower had to be demolished in 1912 due to extensive structural damage. The current church tower was built in 1932 with great effort by the local population and was last renovated in 1994 and equipped with a tower clock. The high altar dates from the second half of the 17th century and is described by culture and art connoisseurs as a beautiful and valuable Baroque jewel. Unfortunately, the builder is unknown. Church historians believe that the altar must have been intended for another church, as it only came to Ollersdorf after the new building (1762).
