Although the history of Maria Fieberbründl only dates back to 1879, it is nevertheless one of the most popular pilgrimage destinations in Styria. Nestled in the eastern Styrian hill country, Maria Fieberbründl is somewhat hidden – surrounded by trees that have grown along with the small pilgrimage church. Since the first Holy Mass in 1881, the influx has increased to approximately 60,000 pilgrims per year. The legend tells of a hermit who built a wooden hut in this secluded forest, where he also placed a statue of Mary. Due to his piety, he was held in high regard. Many came to him for advice, prayed before the Marian statue, and drank from the small spring that flowed nearby. After his death, the wooden hut was converted into a small chapel. Because the water was believed to be especially effective against fever illnesses, it was named Fieberbründl. Watch a VIDEO of Maria Fieberbründl here.
