Urbani Stöckl

The Urbani-Stöckl, made of Landskron granite, was considered an important marker for regional borders during a time of upheaval between the Middle Ages and the early modern period, the 16th century. The stone tabernacle column, consisting of a single piece, served over 400 years ago as a demarcation between the Landgerichte (regional courts) Landskron and Himmelberg and the Burgfried (castle precinct) of Ossiach. This boundary stone reveals another historical detail: that there was viticulture in this area. This is evident from its name, as Saint Urban (a French bishop in the 4th century) is considered the patron saint of winegrowers.
