Turn- u. Sportunion Wesenufer

Waldkirchen, Upper Austria

In 1952, a sports field was built on the leased property of Adolf Königseder, innkeeper in Wesenufer, through their own efforts. On February 21, 1953, the Wesenufer Sports Club was founded under head teacher Dir. Karl Grilnberger. The municipality provided annual support of 500,--/S. In the following years, friendly matches were played against surrounding clubs. Frequent opponents were the Esternberg Sports Club and the Mühlviertel clubs Hofkirchen and Kollerschlag. On May 30, 1965, the Wesenufer Sports Club was registered with the Upper Austrian Football Association. On October 26, 1965, it was admitted to the Union State Association, which led to the name change to Turn- und Sportunion Wesenufer. On August 14, 1966, the newly designed sports facility was opened, and subsequently, football championship operations began in the 4th Class A, where they immediately achieved 2nd place. A wooden barracks served as a changing room and washing facility. Regular training was only introduced in the second half of the 1960s. The highlights in the period 1965-1975 were undoubtedly winning the championship title under player-coach Erwin Dielinger in the 3rd Class Northwest in the 1971/1972 season, as well as the youth championship title in 1971. The year 1970 brought some changes. On January 3, 1970, the Eisstock (ice stock sport) section was founded under section head Jan Feiken. In spring, the changing room and sports field were supplied with electricity for the first time, and in the same year, the Union also organized the first IVV hiking day under "chief hiker" Ludwig Haderer, who was also elected section head of the newly founded hiking section in January 1971. Unfortunately, since the weather god almost exclusively provided rain for the hikers during the excellently organized hiking days, the last hiking day was held in 1975. In 1972, construction began on the main playing field, the so-called Donauufer-Station in Wesenufer. In 1973, the Eisstock section separated from Union Wesenufer and has since operated as an independent club under the name ESV Wesenufer. In 1979, Walter Weissenböck was elected as the first non-Wesenuferer chairman. In the 1979/1980 season, the reserve team, and in 1980/1981, the junior and reserve teams won the championship title. In 1981, Union Wesenufer founded the cross-country skiing section. Groomed by section head Gerhard Strasser and Josef Osterkorn, five different trails ranging from 5-17 km in length were offered. In 1989, due to increasing problems with snow conditions, the section was put on hold again. On January 1, 1982, Adolf Steindl, the owner of the car dealership of the same name, was appointed president of the club. He took over the office from his long-time predecessor Dr. Ferdinand Gruber from Eferding. In 1982, the 30th anniversary was celebrated appropriately, and at the same time, after 2 years of construction, the new sports home was handed over for its intended purpose. The wooden barracks had thus served its purpose. In the 1982/1983 season, under coach Rudolf Feiken, they were promoted to the 1st Class. However, the young and inexperienced team had to return to the 2nd Class the following year. In the following period, the excellent youth work, supported by a whole series of dedicated youth coaches from their own ranks, became noticeable: 1986 champions of the school team, 1987/1988 champions of the junior team, 1989/1990 champions of the U12 youth team, 1992/1993 champions of the school and U16 youth team, 1993/1994 champions of the junior team, 1995/1996 champions of the junior team, 1991 2nd place in the district cup school team, 1992 state champions U12 youth team. In 1992, the school team, under the highly successful youth coach and long-time player Günter Razenberger, who unfortunately died in a traffic accident in 1995, became Innviertler-Cup winners. However, the year 1992 was also marked by the death of long-time player, official, coach, and organizer of countless cultural events, Helmut Kalinke. Kalinke, who became champion twice with both the first team and the reserve, was, among other things, the founding father of the Christmas bazaar, which still exists today. With the opening of the new gymnasium in Waldkirchen, Union Wesenufer founded the gymnastics section in 1995. Section head and lead gymnast Rosi Ettmayer, with her ladies and gentlemen in the gymnastics team, is largely responsible for the fact that the gymnasium is practically fully booked from October to March today. The good youth work of the footballers then also became noticeable in the first team, which became champions in 1996/1997 with coach Roland Ploberger and was promoted to the 1st Class. At the same time, the training ground, including a new floodlight system, was completed after two years of construction. On August 19, 2000, Hugo Selle was appointed honorary captain for his meritorious work and dedication. In 1998, Josef Litzlbauer - one of the then "young stars" of the Union - made the leap into the professional squad of SV Ried and thus became the first professional footballer with roots in Union Wesenufer. Unfortunately, a severe herniated disc injury prevented a further professional career. However, Litzlbauer was active as a key player in various regional league teams. The year 2002 was entirely dedicated to the 50th anniversary, the highlight of which was the three-day tent festival and the official handover of the newly designed sports home with canteen and the covered spectator stand. With countless voluntary working hours and financial support from the Upper Austrian Football Association, Union Upper Austria, and the municipality of Waldkirchen/W., the redesign of the sports center was thus completed under the usual prudent and competent construction management of section head Ing. Günther Luger, the soul of the football section. Unfortunately, they were relegated in the year
