Through the Gleisdorf Memorial, the idea also developed to create a memorial site in Nitscha. The town of Gleisdorf launched a youth competition in 2006 for the memorial in Gleisdorf. The winning project was submitted by Sabina Mahr, a young person from Nitscha. Based on these plans, the memorial was erected in Nitscha in 2014. The modern memorial is intended to commemorate the death marches to concentration camps at the end of the war, during which thousands of people lost their lives. The community of Nitscha, library director Bertram Riegler, as well as Peter Gerstmann and Marianne Ofner from BG/BRG Gleisdorf, were responsible for the project implementation. The project was supported by the municipality of Nitscha and the Austrian Society for Political Education.
