Teufelsstein / Steinernes Kreuz

Lembach, Upper Austria

According to legend, a farmer promised the devil his soul for money. The farmer soon regretted this deal, threw the money at Satan's feet and said a short prayer. The devil, in anger, thrust his pitchfork into the stone, and these marks are supposedly still visible today.According to legend, the devil had a fierce brawl with a farmer returning home late in the evening from the inn. The farmer cut off one of the devil's horns with a fodder knife, whereupon the devil, tormented by pain, stepped on the stone with his feet. An imprint of the cloven hoof remained from this fight. The farmer had the Stone Cross erected out of gratitude.Car: from Linz on the B127 approx. 33 km to the Altenfelden roundabout, 3rd exit to Lembach, follow the road for approx. 6 km, turn left to the Lembach town centerBus: from Linz by public buses from the main station, reachable in approx. 1 hour.Bus timetable to Lembach available on the website of the market town of Lembach.Train: With the Mühlkreisbahn to Neufelden station - approx. 10 km distance - with Taxi Altendorfer 07286/8508 to LembachNearest airport: Linz/HörschingShip: to Obermühl on the Danube - approx. 6 km distance - with Taxi Altendorfer 07286/8508 to Lembach
