Tauchen im Altausseer See

Altaussee, Styria

wassersport

Lake Altaussee is one of the most scenic lakes in the Salzkammergut. The water has a luminous dark blue color - the "dark blue inkwell" as Lake Altaussee is also called. The lake lies at 712 meters above sea level and is approx. 72 meters deep. The northern shore of the lake is easier to reach than the southern lake area. Access by car is permitted up to the hotel by the lake - please note the short-term parking zone and the parking fee! A narrow hiking trail begins just after the hotel by the lake, heading east. The diving zone, Kahlseneck, also begins there. "Overgrown" - that is a short but apt description of the northern lakebed of Lake Altaussee. Only in the rear part of the lake does a fauna and flora typical of alpine waters reveal itself: waterweed, charophytes (various species) adorn the shallower area - from time to time, one or two lake trout or even a rainbow trout also dart past. The lucky devotee of Neptune may also discover one of the few 'wrecks' - old, sunken rowing boats that could serve as a photo motif in good weather conditions. Smaller rocks, blocks, but also mud and sediment areas from which here and there a tree, similar to a memorial, protrudes, delight the diver. "Beautiful, but cold" - that is the unanimous verdict after a dive in Lake Altaussee.
