Revitalized information boards, audio podcasts, and supplementary online information make the circular path in the Attersee-Traunsee Nature Park an informative nature experience for everyone interested in forests and nature.The Taferlklause forest soil nature trail at Taferlklaussee in the municipality of Altmünster was established in 2008 by the Federal Research Centre for Forests (BFW), which also includes the Traunkirchen Forestry Training Centre. Since then, the nature trail has established itself as a vivid learning and experience site: several thousand course participants and students have already visited it as part of training courses. In addition, numerous visitors use the circular path in their free time.In spring 2026, the information boards were revitalized in cooperation between the Province of Upper Austria, the municipality of Altmünster, and the BFW, and supplemented with current content on the topic of protective forests. The circular path around the lake is located in the middle of the Attersee-Traunsee Nature Park and is open to all interested parties.Along the nature trail, visitors gain exciting insights into the forest soil. The display boards explain how the soils are structured at the respective forest site, what properties they have, and what significance they have for the forest. It becomes particularly clear that the forest soil – in addition to the climate – significantly contributes to which tree species can grow in Austria's forests in the future.The forest soil nature trail is aimed at forest owners, foresters, schools, nature enthusiasts, and everyone who wants to get to know the forest from a new perspective.
