The lake with its shore zone is now designated as a nature reserve, and its clear water has drinking water quality. The southern shore is boggy and inaccessible, as it is a raised bog and a grey alder carrs. The Taferlklaussee can be circumnavigated on a well-maintained hiking trail in about half an hour, with a constant view of the lake. Hiking trails also lead further to the Hochlecken and to the Hochleckenhaus, to the Kienklause and further to the Attersee. On the other side, via the Froschweg, you can reach the Hinterer Langbathsee and hike on well-developed hiking trails all the way to Altmünster on the Traunsee. The echo blowing at Taferlklaussee, which takes place annually on August 15, has a long tradition. Several brass groups use the echo of the Höllengebirge and take turns playing tunes, yodels, and folk melodies across the lake.
