Sumerauerhof St. Florian

St. Florian, Upper Austria

ausstellungmuseumstour

History The farm first appeared in a document from Bishop Wolfker of Passau around 1200. At that time, however, it was not yet a Vierkanthof (four-sided farmstead), but a group of buildings constructed from clay or wood depending on their use. In 1378, the Sumerauerhof was listed among the large Meierhöfe (manor farms) of St. Florian Abbey. In the course of the 17th century, the residential and farm buildings likely merged to form a classic Vierkanthof. In 1855, a fire destroyed part of the residential wing. The farm was subsequently rebuilt, and its structural condition remained largely unchanged until 1971. In 1978, the Sumerauerhof, one of the largest farms in Upper Austria, was acquired by the Province of Upper Austria and opened as an open-air museum. Today, with its wood-paneled Stube (parlor) and especially its partially original preserved living rooms, the farm offers an insight into the bourgeois living conditions of the wealthy farmers of the Florianer Landl at the end of the 19th century.
