ausstellungmuseumstour

Entrance to the museum at the Stiftskeller (Seestraße 2) In the historic rooms of the Propstei, the Stiftsmuseum has been established since 1977 and is a place of religious and historical events. The museum covers several focal points in twelve rooms equipped for visitors: - Treasure Chamber with a copy of the Tassilo Chalice, - a covered table for the twelve canons with Tafel silver and pewterware, - art gallery with works by J.M. Rottmayr. Interesting cultural-historical exhibits await visitors: the Stiftsbibliothek with over 3,000 old holdings, including manuscripts and incunabula, and a display of various documents, the oldest from the year 860, issued by Ludwig the German, grandson of Emperor Charlemagne, to the monastery of Mattsee for a donation to the Mattsee missionaries in the east. Further exhibits include: liturgical silver and gold treasures from the 16th to 18th centuries, an astronomical clock from 1704, two rooms dedicated to the musician Anton Diabelli with Biedermeier furnishings and to Prof. Burghard Breitner with his last furniture, his surgical tools in Siberia, his final medical writings, documentation of the exile of the Holy Stefan's crown of Hungary in Mattsee, and much more. The focus is on the abbey with its long history and tradition. The early Gothic and Baroque-style Mattsee Abbey Church impresses with its atmosphere and provides a beautiful setting for cultural events or church weddings in Mattsee. The Stiftsplatz with the large old linden tree also serves as a meeting point and offers a beautiful setting for an agape!
