With its unique architecture, the Stadtturm (City Tower) in Gmünd (from the 16th century) hosts changing exhibitions by artists every summer. The late Gothic "Untere Tor" (Lower Gate) with a Baroque gable and small bell tower is the city's landmark.2026: KLAUS FROSTKlaus Frost was born in Carinthia in 1964 and studied theoretical biology and epistemology at the University of Vienna. His scientific work focused on the question of how the qualities of our experience – for example, colors – arise in our brain. Already during his studies, he returned to painting, which he had enthusiastically pursued since childhood. After his studies, he moved back to Carinthia and has lived there for over 30 years as a freelance artist in the Maltatal. His abstract and figurative paintings are about the harmony and intensity of colors. A special feature of his paintings is that many of them have an actual three-dimensional depth, which gives these paintings a special aesthetic appeal. Through a special technique, his paintings create the feeling of not looking at a canvas, but of looking out of a window. Even in his figurative paintings, the aim is not to depict the world as we see it in everyday life. Rather, it is about evoking, through figurative motifs – be they people, houses, or landscapes – the feeling and mood we experience when we meet these people, when we live in these houses, or when we wander through these landscapes.
