Stadttheater Gmunden

Opened in 1872 as a spa theater. First owned by theater director J.M. Kotzky. Since 1918, the municipality of Gmunden. In 1872, the newly built Gmunden seasonal theater was opened. In the first decades, it was owned by the Salzburg theater director J.M. Kotzky. In 1913, the municipality of Gmunden acquired the cinema license and operated the cinema within the theater building under its own management. In 1918, Director Kotzky sold the seasonal theater to the municipality of Gmunden. On April 24, 1931, the first sound film screening took place in the Gmunden Stadttheater-Kino. In May 1949, the newly renovated Gmunden theater building was opened with a festive academy. In 1997, the largest change to the theater building to date was made. The street-side part of the theater was completely renewed. In addition, a small hall with state-of-the-art technology and room design was created. It is mainly used as an art house cinema. In the stage area, additional lighting with automatic control was installed, and the stage technology systems were renovated. A small buffet was installed in the theater's foyer and a bar was set up on the first floor. The over 150-year-old Stadttheater is the center of Gmunden's cultural life and an architectural jewel. It hosts event series of international format. It is home to many Gmunden cultural associations, a stage for guest performances, info evenings and panel discussions, it offers cinema on a large screen and, if required, also a splendid location for balls, festivities and private celebrations. By train: via Attnang-Puchheim station on the Salzkammergutbahn (line 170) to Gmunden station, from Gmunden station with the Traunseetram (line 161) from Stern & Hafferl to the Gmunden Rathausplatz stop, also coming from Vorchdorf Eggenberg or Gmunden Engelhof (Park & Ride). The stop is in the immediate vicinity. Numerous connections from Attnang-Puchheim station to the main express trains on the Westbahn line (line 101) or via Gmunden to the Salzkammergutbahn in the direction of Bad Ischl, Hallstatt and Bad Aussee. By bus: OÖVV bus lines 507, 505 or 533 as well as Gmunden city bus lines, Gmunden Rathausplatz stop. By bicycle: The Stadttheater Gmunden is also very easily accessible by bicycle. The Traunvierteltour as well as the R4 Traunradweg and R2 Salzkammergutradweg pass by Rathausplatz or the Traunbrücke, approx. 200 meters away.
