Stadttheater

The newly built Gmunden seasonal theater opened in 1872. In the first decades, it was owned by the Salzburg theater director J.M. Kotzky. In 1913, the municipality of Gmunden acquired the cinema license and operated the cinema within the theater building under its own management. In 1918, Director Kotzky sold the seasonal theater to the municipality of Gmunden. On April 24, 1931, the first sound film screening took place in the Gmunden Stadttheater-Kino. In May 1949, the newly renovated Gmunden theater building was opened with a festive academy. In 1997, the largest change to the theater building to date was made. The street-facing part of the theater was completely renewed. In addition, a small hall with state-of-the-art technology and room design was created. It is mainly used as an art house cinema. In the stage area, additional lighting with automatic control was installed, and the stage technical facilities were renovated.
