On the town square, as well as along the main street, we primarily see two- and three-story burgher houses on elongated medieval plots, which characterize the town. In many of these houses, numerous late medieval building components have been preserved, but many alterations and new constructions took place in the second half of the 16th century and the first half of the 17th century, especially after the great town fire in 1642. Particularly worth seeing are the Old Town Hall with the Historic Town Theater Grein (1791), and the former shipmaster's house with the arcaded courtyard. History of the Danube town Grein and the history of shipping on the Danube.
