Stadtpfarrkirche Steyregg

Steyregg, Upper Austria

The building in its current size dates from the second half of the 14th century, around 1370, and is dedicated to Saint Stephen. During the renovation in 1974-1977, many older foundations and remnants of small windows and gates in the masonry came to light, suggesting an older building structure of a church or chapel. The presbytery, the left aisle, and the vault for the gallery are Gothic. The nave was also formerly Gothic. Behind the current round arches, the Gothic pointed arches are still present. The church likely burned down more than 250 years ago. The ceiling was constructed in its current form by simply nailing a wooden formwork to the roof truss beams, plastering it, and adding stucco.
