In 1142, the parish of Eferding was separated from Hartkirchen. In 1451, construction of the new building began at the behest of Count Johann II of Schaunberg. In 1466, "beginning of the longhouse." Further construction dates until 1497 are visible on the portals, the arcade arches, and the vault. In 1505, the building was completed in its current form; a special attraction is the construction of the double-armed spiral staircase to the organ loft, which serves as access to the choir. The population also helped with the completion. Many servants and maids sacrificed their annual wages. During this time, the city experienced a great boom. Most of the houses date from this period. 75 different professions were established. In 1606, the tower of the city parish church was destroyed by lightning and rebuilt. The late Gothic building was baroqueized in many parts (side altars, pulpit, tower, sacristy) in the second half of the 17th century. The current Neo-Gothic high altar dates from 1890 and is a work from St. Ulrich in Grödnertal. Guided tours are possible by prior arrangement. The church is open daily during the day; please be considerate if services are taking place and wait for them to finish before visiting.
