Spittal an der Drau, Carinthia
Created over 400 years ago by Johann Graf von Ortenburg and protected for centuries by thick walls, the city park in Spittal is now one of the most beautiful facilities in Carinthia! More than 400 trees provide shade for many a tired cyclist and walker in the midday heat. Plane trees (several hundred years old), linden trees, chestnuts, red beeches, acacias, and ash trees are just some of the numerous tree species. The 3.2 x 2.4m picture frame in the middle of the park provides the perfect setting for a souvenir photo with the castle and fountain in the background. The "Green Heart of the City" is both a local recreation area for the local population and a meeting point for families with children, who are predominantly found at the park's own playground. The appearance of the city park changes with the seasons. From a blossoming jewel in spring to a magnificent play of colors in autumn, there is something for everyone. In winter, the traditional Christmas market takes place around the fountain, and you can comfortably skate your rounds on the ice rink in the park.
