Spittal an der Drau, Carinthia
Built entirely in the style of a Renaissance palace with an arcaded courtyard, this former hospice - built by Gabriel von Salamanca - is one of the city's most remarkable buildings. Only the needy and travelers found accommodation and food here. A written hospital regulation (1654) with service instructions for the care of the inmates still provides insight into the meager way of life of that time. Today, the "Spittl" is the seat of the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences.
