Speicherkraftwerk Partenstein

Partenstein was not only the largest power plant at the time, but also the most modern. Many technical innovations had their premiere here. Until the end of the 19th century, wood from the Böhmerwald and the upper Mühlviertel was floated down the Große Mühl to the Danube. Then people began to use the power of water to generate electricity. The Partenstein power plant was designed by the famous Art Nouveau architect Mauriz Balzarek. The typical industrial architecture of the turn of the century blends harmoniously into the narrow basin of the Mühl valley. A baroque fountain next to the power house and a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk directly next to the bridge come from the former Langhalsen Castle. No more guided tours / visits possible! It is located in the Mühlviertel, about one kilometer north of the village of Untermühl, near the confluence of the Große Mühl and the Danube.
