Sonnen-Winterwanderung

This hike takes you uphill to the viewpoint with a magnificent view of the town of Abtenau and the impressive Tennengebirge mountain range. Route length: 5.4 km Walking time: approximately 1.5 hours Difficulty: moderate Route description: The starting point of the tour is the Ost parking lot in Abtenau. From here, you begin along the uphill road towards Gasthof Sonntleit'n or Scheffenbichl. At the inn (only open for groups with prior reservation), you have a wonderful panoramic view. Continue walking, keep left, and go through a forest at Scheffenbichl. This path merges into the forest road, which you leave to the right towards Brandbichl, then walk downhill along the path until you reach the road. From here, go left along the road uphill through the Kehlhof district back to Abtenau. At the intersection, from which you can again enjoy a splendid view of Abtenau and the Tennengebirge, go straight ahead until you reach the field path that passes houses and the swimming pool and leads directly into the town center. Alternatively, just before the field path, you can turn left into Wimmwald and follow the path through the forest. This will then lead you downhill over a road back into the town center. Getting there & parking: Public transport: Take the Postbus to the stop "Abtenau Ortsmitte," from where it is only a few minutes' walk to the Ost parking lot. By car: Take the A10 (Tauernautobahn) to the Golling exit, then continue towards Abtenau. Parking options: Ost parking lot or West parking lot in the town center.
